Tim Baker brings over a decade of experience managing and consulting political campaigns, having worked on more than twenty campaigns for federal office. Baker joined Capitol Strategy Group, Inc. in 2007 to lead the general consulting area of the firm. His extensive experience in electing candidates to Congress includes working all across the southeast with the National Republican Congressional Committee, developing and implementing paid and earned media, mail, grassroots and fundraising plans for many campaigns.
Baker most recently served as the General Consultant for Rick Goddard's campaign in Georgia's 8th Congressional District, one of the top challenger races during the 2008 election cycle, Terry Rogers' campaign for Georgia State Senate and Rick Austin's successful campaign for Georgia State House.
Prior to joining Capitol Strategy Group, Baker served as General Consultant for and Campaign Manager for former Congressman Max Burns' campaign in Georgia's 12th Congressional District. He almost pulled off the impossible by directing a campaign that came within 864 votes of defeating an incumbent democratic Congressman, the closest a challenger came to defeating an incumbent in 2006. He previously served as Burns' Chief of Staff in Washington and assisted in raising nearly $5 million for Burns during the last two election cycles.
During the 2002 cycle, Baker served as the Southern Field Representative for the National Republican Congressional Committee, helping House Republicans defy history and add seats to the House Republican majority. Many of the new Republicans who were elected came from the eight-state region that he was responsible for overseeing. He played an integral role in helping Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite (FL-05) defeat a Democrat incumbent (one of only two in 2002), and Congressmen Phil Gingrey (GA-11) and Max Burns (GA-12), score major upsets despite being elected in gerrymandered districts designed to elect a democrat.
In the 2000 election cycle, Baker managed Congressman Robin Hayes' critical re-election campaign in North Carolina's 8th Congressional District. Congressman Hayes won election in 1998 with just over 1,500 votes and Baker successfully built a re-election campaign in 2000 that yielded an eleven-point victory in a district with over sixty percent Democrat registration.
Baker's first political opportunity came in 1996 when he served as the Political Director for then-Congressman Saxby Chambliss' first re-election effort in the 8th Congressional District of Georgia. He directed a grassroots operation that re-elected Congressman Chambliss with 53 percent of the vote in a new court-ordered drawn district with nearly half the vote being new to the district. Baker then joined Congressman Chambliss' Washington staff and consulted the 1998 re-election campaign helping Congressman Chambliss receive 62 percent of the vote.
Baker has lectured on fundraising and political management for many of the Republican National Committee's campaign management schools.
Baker grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He and his wife Eliza reside in Gainesville, Georgia, and they have two young sons, Jackson and Barrett.
